Happy New Year to all and I hope 2011 will bring renewed excitement for Business Process Management (BPM) at your firm!
Many firms have had history or are familiar with BPM initiatives, especially New Business Intake and its associated processes like Additional Related Parties or Matter Change Request. That process is far and away the most popular process initiative but there are ample opportunities to extend process automation across the enterprise beyond NBI.
Process opportunities could include:
· HR Personnel Requisition
· HR Onboarding
· Attorney Annual Rate Review
· Inactive Matter Review
· Purchase Request
· Invoice Management
· Annual Performance Reviews
· IT Issue Management
· Legal Process Outsourcing
· Legal Project Management
and many more...
Some of these processes, as well as others not specifically listed, can require significant effort to manually execute and manage yet few firms have really embraced enterprise BPM to transform their entire business into a more agile and efficient enterprise. Even a small investment in a simple process can reap big rewards in efficiency and generate new ideas for additional process improvement.
My hope for 2011 is that firms open their minds to new opportunities for business process improvement and embrace BPM solutions as one of the primary drivers in operational excellence.
